Montana Sapphires

Found in all of the colors of the rainbow, Montana sapphires are found in clay and gravel deposits along the Missouri River as well as Western Montana. Gold prospectors as early as the mid 1860's started finding these precious gemstones in their gold pans.

Yogo Sapphires are considered by many gem collectors to be the finest of all sapphires. These rare gems are found in only in one location in the world. That place is Yogo Gulch about 74 miles North-East of Helena Montana in the Judith Basin area. Yogo Sapphires are found in "hard rock" and range in color from highly transparent "cornflower" blue to dark purple.
